Two volumes of "The Present State of the Cape of Good Hope" written originally by Peter Kolben in High German and done into English from the original by Mr. Medley. Both volumes have a family crest of the owner "Lt Colonel William Ross King" pasted on the inside cover. Volume 1 is a 2nd edition illustrated with Copper Plates and Printed for W. Innys and R Maney at the Weft End of St. Pauls. It is dated MDCXXXV111 ( 1738) The front page reads Volume 1 "A particular Account of the feveral Nations of the Hottentots" together with "A short account of the Dutch Settlement at the Cape" Volume 11, I presume is a 1st edition, illustrated with copper plates and printed for W. Innys at the Weft End of St. Pauls and is dated MDCCXXX1 .(1731) It contains The Natural History of the Cape and besides other illustrations has a pull out map titled "The New Map of the Cape of Good Hope" I have very little knowledge of books but will try my best to accurately describe the condition of these two volumes and hopefully buyers will gauge from my description and from the pictures what they are worth. Both volumes are very scuffed with darkened pages and both the front covers have come off. A page with an illustration in Volume 11 has come loose, plus a blank page at the back of the book. The second volume also has what looks like a brownish water stain read more
