An artist carved a wood block, one for each color, and hand printed each print one color at a time. These old reprints are sought after for their meticulous attention to detail and color, rivaling the originals. Unlike the brighter, souvenir prints seen on the market these fine reprints show the attention to detail and careful color choices intended to exactly replicate the old originals. Rising majestically near the center of Japan, Fuji dominates the landscape and the Japanese national identity. Hiroshige's wonderful Fuji views show the mountain in each of the four seasons from various vantage points. From the urban city center of Edo to cherry blossom viewing in a small village to the fantastic crashing wave at Awa, the mountain always appears serene and unmoved despite the beauty and activity around.
