How were these prints done? These beautiful woodblock reprints were done exactly as the originals. An artist carved a wood block, one for each color, and hand printed each print one color at a time. These old reprints are sought after for their meticulous attention to detail and color, rivaling the originals. Unlike the brighter, souvenir prints seen on the market these fine reprints show the attention to detail and careful color choices intended to exactly replicate the old originals.

Hiroshige's 36 Views of Mt. Fuji- In Japan, Mt. Fuji is a sacred place and a symbol of the country itself. Rising majestically near the center of Japan, Fuji dominates the landscape and the Japanese national identity. Hiroshige's wonderful Fuji views show the mountain in each of the four seasons from various vantage points. From the urban city center of Edo to cherry blossom viewing in a small village to the fantastic crashing wave at Awa, the mountain always appears serene and unmoved despite the beauty and activity around. The Fuji series is without question one of Hiroshige's great masterworks and prints from this series are highly sought after by collectors. This evening, we are pleased to bring you this wonderful group of prints from Hiroshige's magnificent Fuji series. Comments- One of the two or three most famous prints from the series. A fantastic image of the Sagami River with two boatmen poling their crafts along the river in this rural outpost. The figure in the foreground wearing a tie-dyed kimono. Fantastic design, Fuji rising in the distance, birds overhead. Wonderful, classic Hiroshige, with the tall grasses in the extreme foreground. A great piece for a collector. A Hiroshige masterwork, don't pass this one by!
