Theodore Roosevelt 1904 P residential Campaign Official, one-of-a-kind handwritten, record of the Texas Republican Party From January 25, 1904 to July 5, 1904. The notebook details many very interesting issues facing the Republican Party in 1904. First was the strong support for Theodore Roosevelt. As noted in the Records one of the main objectives of the Committee is to make sure that Theodore Roosevelt is elected President. “….and endeavor to secure the unanimous state endorsement for Roosevelt with iron-clad instructions to delegates!” Another issue was the exclusion of African Americans Republicans in playing any meaningful role in the Convention. The result was that the African Americans, with some Caucasians Republicans, left and formed a “Black and Tan” Convention. This race issue is noted in the record.
