Offered for sale is a wonderful , museum quality painting that was most probably made between 1850 - 1860 , by the french realism painter , Theodore Rousseau 1812 - 1867 . * on the back of the painting t is an old label that indicates the painting as Theodore Rousseau , and the title : Sous-bois de la foret de Barbizon . I don't know what that means , but I think the painting show 2 woman who are harvesting an oak for acorns , apparently in the forest of Barbizon Provenance : acquired on a house liquidation ( according to the man who sold it , his father bought it in the early 40ies in South-Germany ) Medium : oil on canvas * the paint / surface seem to be smooth on my photo , but it is not - sadly I can't make any bether photos , so I can only try to explain it . * at some areas the paint is pastose , and you can easily see the brushstrokes - for example the rock on the lower left , the tree trunk in the middle of the painting , the white cloud , the knots , and partially the leafage . * other areas , specially the small pond in the middle , are very thin painted . Condition : * overall good condition - ( t are some small restorations visible under blacklight , but they don't affect the quality of the artwork ) * the varnish seems to be old - ( it looks a little bid dirty and yellowed ) . * this painting would definitely
