BEAUTIFUL THICK WOVEN TAPESTRY, PROBABLY FRENCH -Vivid colors with a man and a woman, with many kinds of birds, amidst a background of stylized vines and flowers. Very good condition - no tears, no fading, no stains, no discoloration from lighting.
The tapestry is circa 1970's and is in good condition. The tapestry has a lining stitched to the back on all 4 sides. Metal hooks across the back top to hang the tapestry. T are no longer any tags on the back of the tapestry. It matches a French series of tapestries "Tapestry du Lion" (Tapisseries du Lion) woven in wool and cotton that we had over the years - we have sold most of them on ebay this past year. The originals of these tapestries are in the Musee de Bale (Basle). Size is 69 inches wide by 48 inches long. It is like the size of a large painting -it makes a great focal point for the room. Colorful and detailed background with many birds, falcons, pheasants, and more kinds, makes it fascinating to look at. The colors are good. Good shades of reds, greens, blues, and browns. The design and the colors are even - no fading. The design has a texture to it - when you touch the front of the tapestry you can feel how certain parts of the tapestry are slightly raised - it is almost like it was sculpted out of the fabric. The tapestry weighs just less than 9 pounds before any packing materials to give you an idea how thick it is. It is mostly wool, with a small blend of cotton and Polymid. ALL SALES FINAL. I am selling items that have some age to them. Naturally t will be irregularities and flaws just because of the age. I will describe an item as best I can, and will try to picture any irregularities or missing parts, but ASK QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID!
