The author writes in his Preface "In writing this little book about a country with which, over and above the period of my personal residence, I have had life-long intimate connection, I have avoided touching on controvesial and political matters of the present moment." The book deals with daily life in China at the beginning of the 20th Century and is a fascinating document of a vanished world. A scarce title, especially in such good condition as this.
