The African Slave Trade by Thomas Fowell Buxton. New York, 1840, by The American Anti-Slavery Society. A rare printing of this title. The 1st American edition was published in Philadelphia from the London edition. However the book omitted an important chapter on the African Commerce as a means of rooting out the Slave Trade. So the New York Anti-Slavery Society republished it and included the missing chapter. The Philadelphia edition only had 188 pages and this copy with the missing chapter has 236 pages. I have done a lot of research and have found several copies of the Philadelphia edition, but no listings anyw on this New York edition. Bound in the original brown blindstamped cloth with gilt lettering on spine. Covers show some wear, rubbing and spotting but still very solid. Interior pages have some minor foxing and a light waterstain on the upper right corner of the 1st 85 pages. See scans. Shipping and handling is quoted for media mail, U.S. only.
