FDMSC-001-100 - THOMAS JEFFERSON BUST 8" by Houdon. Jean-Antoine Houdon (1741-1828) was one of the most celebrated portrait sculptors of his day. Renowned for his classical statues of the goddess Diana, Cicero, Rousseau, and Voltaire, the French sculptor was commissioned by kings and great men all over Europe to render their likenesses in stone. This authentically detailed sculpture is based on Houdon's portrait bust of Thomas Jefferson modeled by Houdon. The extraordinary artist was commissioned to create sculptures of a number of American leaders, including Benjamin Franklin and George Washington, tby eternally linking the Houdon name with that of our American forefathers. Regarded as one of this country's foremost political leaders and diplomats, Thomas Jefferson served his country for nearly five decades.
