YOU ARE BIDDING ON A 1806 OHIO LAND GRANT SIGNED BY THOMAS JEFFERSON. IT IS ALSO SIGNED BY JAMES MADISON SECRETARY OF STATE.
IT READS: Thomas Jefferson President of the United States of America TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETING: Knom De, That Adam Brandt (of signee) ? Conrad Fredder (jun) ? having deposited in the Treasury a certificate of the Register of the Land-office at Chilicothe wby it appears that full payment has been made for the Lot or Section number Ten of township number Fifteen in Range number Nineteen of the Lands directed to be sold at Chilicothe by the act of Congress, entitled "An act providing for the sale of the Lands of the United States in the Territory north-west of the Ohio, and above the mouth of Kentucky River," and of the acts amendatory of the same, T is granted, by the United States, unto the said Adam Brandt the lot or section of land above described: To have and to hold the said lot or section of land, with the appurtenances, unto the said Adam Brandt his heirs and assigns forever. In Testimony wof, I have caused these Letters to be made Patent, and the Seal of the United States to be unto affixed. Given under my Hand at the City of Washington, the Fifth day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and Six ; and of the Independence of the United States of America, the Thirtieth . By the President, Signature of Thomas Jefferson James Madison Signature , Secretary of State *all red and underlined items are hand written on the document. The document has a center crease vertically and horizontally. As the photo shows t is some darkening of the vellum at the top and bottom of the vertical crease and on the right side of the document you will notice two marks. (These marks are very conveniently placed and similar to a thumb and index finger hold of the paper with the right hand. This I discovered as I held the document and my fingers fell in the same spot.) T is another spot to the left of the seal. T are also some smaller creases throughout the deed and especially on the bottom half. These minute creases can be seen on the Thomas Jefferson's signature. The red wax for the seal is visible on the back side. James Madison must have signed the paper then folded it for delivery because the ink wasn't dry and the residual was blotted when the paper was folder and the marks below the seal is the blotted ink from the Madison signature. As it lines up perfectly and you can make out the reversed letters. This is a true heirloom to remember 2 of our presidents. If you have any questions or would like other photos emailed to you please contact me prior to bidding. This was a surprise find in the attic of my Aunt's house. Thank You for looking and being a historical buff!!
