Amusing and chatty correspondence from author Thomas McGuane to Barnaby Conrad, friend and fellow writer who for many years was the director of the Santa Barbara Writer's Conference. This group contains six letters, all signed "Tom": ALS on McGuane's stationery, dated 1993, 2-page letter written on front and back of one sheet. "I've just returned from a book tour in England where a man can hold a book in his hand without causing an angry mob to form." [and:] ALS on Montana State University Foundation letterhead, dated Thanksgiving 2000. 1-page letter. "I celebrated my 60th year by breaking and finishing 3 saddle horses, bought Ibuprofen stock." With transmittal envelope. [and:] ALS on postcard with "McGuane Ranch" printed return address, postmarked 2001. "I forgot to thank you for the portrait of the late great fish, murdered by your companion!" [and:] ALS on MSU Foundation letterhead, dated "April fools 2001. [and:] ALS on fax from Conrad soliciting submissions for his book Snoopy's Guide to the Writing Life, for which Conrad issued courtesy $100 checks to the authors.
