Thomas Mercer marine chronometer 2-day serial no. 28330. I am selling this on behalf of my partner. He was given the chronometer on a ship that he was serving on that was sent for scrap in 2002. The ship was built around 1975 so we expect that the chronometer dates back to around this time but it could be older. My partner does not really want to part company with this item, the only reason that we are considering selling is that it has sat in a cupboard for a number of years and it is a shame to keep it out of sight. It has a rate certificate from 1996 and still keeps excellent time when it is wound every so often to keep it working. The chronometer is solid brass but has been coated with a metallic paint as can be seen from the pictures. The only defect that is apparent is a small scratch/mark on the dial around the 11th hour that has been there since he got it. Please feel free to ask any questions, and I will do my best to answer them, I can also supply more pictures if they are required. Please note that I have advertised this item elsewhere so reserve the right to remove it from the auction if it is sold before the end. I would prefer collection only for this delicate and valuable item, but am able to post it if there is no other way. Overseas bidders please contact me for postage options before bidding. Payment via
