Most of this stuff on line was mined by me anyway - buy from the source and save $$$. Available is a large 224 gram specimen of Thorite (Th) from the Trench #1 on Mount Rosa in Teller County , Colorado . The specimen is very rich with wonderful red Thorite and is unusually active!!! Some Hematite exists with Thorite in matrix making it a super display specimen. This is the best material I have found to date! This is excellent material for Geiger Test specimens and is also of collector quality. Since Rad detector readings will differ depending upon the type and probe sensitivity, I include photos using three calibrated meters of different types (NeutronRae Pager, CDV-700 with beta shield CLOSED, and Eberline ASP-1 with a very sensitive, large scintallator probe). The specimens measure about 3.7 mR/hr on my NeutronRae and is about 9 mR/hr CDV-700 with the beta shield closed! Finally, they measure about 500,000 cpm with my ASP-1 at two inches from the specimen and 1,800,000 at the surface. Note: You may get higher or lower readings on your own meter depending upon its sensitivity. This is a killer specimen at a very affordable price!!! This mineral is brick red in color, very dense, and quite active. This material is high in iron making it an attractive red color. Since this material produces Alpha, Beta, X-Ray, and Gamma there is natural trace amounts of Uranium as well making it superior material for collectors and scientific studies. The specimen is worthy of the most advanced mineral collections. It is a great specimen to test your Geiger counter and it will move the needle even at the x100 setting All my Thorite, Aeschynite, and Samarskite is mined by me.
