BANGER Verge movement No 3239 c1701Please note you are looking at a pocket watch movement onlyThis movement was made by one of the most esteemed watch makers of all time:Thomas Tompion. This movement was made circa 1701The movement has a broken balance with a snapped off top pivot and a detached but perfect chainThe dial and motion work are lacking. The movement is sold “as is” with NO refunds or returns acceptedMovement – the large gilt full plate verge movement has large Egyptian style pillars and a large pierced watch cock. The watch cock is decorated with ornate pierced work including large wings, a cherub’s face and a large D shaped watch foot decorated with pierced work. The movement also has particularly fine gilt detailing around the movementThe movement is signed “T. Tompion, E Banger, London” # 3239 and apart from the broken balance etc has a few small scratchesThe movement has no motion work or dial it is numbered 3239 and scratched on the pillar plate, “A.W” - Anthony Walraven, himself a watchmaker, was indicted for forgery and counterfeiting hallmarking stamps and Dice. Such a crime carried a heavy penalty in the 18th century and he was sentenced to death on July 8th, 1724.The movement measures 38mm on the back plate, 36mm wide on the pillar / dial plate x 16mm deepPreviously sold, Christies, 7 th October 1982 Check out my other items !
