Selling from the United Kingdom - International buyers welcome. Three small delightful hand-painted powder compacts and powder/rouge vanity items from the 1920's/1930's or earlier, all with internal mirrors. 1. A small, very slim, but quite weighty Art Nouveau (early 1900's) silver-washed over brass, powder compact with gorgeous duck egg blue lid overpainted with delicate swirls of pink, white, blue, green and brown. Very pretty. It has a machine engraved patterned base. The interior has a silver-wash and the mirror is set within a metal rope bezel. The condition is quite good for its age. The blue lid does not have any paint loss, but t are a couple of tiny pin prick black marks, and if held to the light you can see some mild surface wear. The silver-wash has worn, more to the base, with the front of the compact retaining most of the silver-wash, which has darkened in patches with age. The small mirror shows some deterioration, but retains a passable reflection. This does, however, remain a most delightful early compact, and the evidence of use in my opinion does not detract too much. It sits in the palm of the hand very comfortably just like those small flat stones you use to skim the water! Hinge and clasp are in good working order. 2. A 1920's/1930's tiny, bright red, probably celluloid, screw top rouge or powder pot with hand-painted young woman with rose and feather boa in her hands. T is an internal mirror. The condition is quite good for its age. The painted image is still mainly in good condition, with very mild surface wear, although the young woman's facial features are not very visible to the naked eye, but examined under a loupe, t is still the faint outline of eyes, and some very bright pink cheeks! T are also two tiny little nibbles from the paint on her skirt. The base also has some very mild surface wear. The mirror has a decent reflection but does have some silvering loss to the edges and some very mild spotting and hazing. The screw thread has worn so that the lid will only sit on the base, although with a little patience, you can get it to 'catch'. 3. A small, quite weighty, cut glass powder/rouge pot with interior mirror and hinged hand-painted ceramic lid of Dutch woman and child, with sail boat in the background, set within a gilt metal bezel. This is probably Edwardian (early 1900's) or possibly 1920's. The condition is good with no chips to the glass that I can feel and no loss of paint to the lid. The mirror is showing silvering deterioration, but still retains a passable reflection. The interior gilt metal bezel in which the mirror is set has bent a little near the hinge, and the gilt metal in general has darkened with age. The smooth glass base shows some small surface scratches . Hinge in good working order.
