STALKY & CO. is a somewhat biographical account of Kipling's years at The United Services College at Westward Ho! in Biddeford, North Devon, England. The three boys, Beetle, M'Turk, and Stalky are based on Kipling himself, and the two good friends he made at the school, G.C. Beresford, and L.C. Dunsterville. The boy's exploits are rendered in a dialect peculiar to British school boys in the latter part of the 19th century. There are 17 black and white illustrations, and someone evidently cut the color version of "The Pleasant Isle of Aves" up and pasted it onto the inside front cover. 447 pages, all intact and legible. Published by Macmillan And Co., London, in 1929. The binding is tight, and apart from penciled notes on the inside back cover, the book is reasonably clean. The red cloth cover has the jacket illustration embossed in gold. In addition to the title, author and publisher, the spine has a charming illustration of a boy holding a turtle aloft.
