An attractive set of three Chinese export porcelain plates, decorated in blue and white, Qianlong period, 18th century description: On offer is this attractive set of three Chinese porcelain plates, hand painted under glaze in blue on milky white. The plates are nicely decorated and show a central design of an insect and blossoming flowers, surrounded by a border with three floral motifs. These plates have a plain white backside and are unmarked. The plates are in good condition, with no severe damages or repairs, but having some light rim frittings/ fleabite chips, as well as some local glaze wear, not detracting from their appearance and having to be mentioned for accuracy. One plate has a light (hardly visible) rim hairline. Another plate has some (hardly visible) base hairlines. Knocking these plates with fingernails still produces a clear sound. Please view the pictures, which give a good impression of the wonderful quality and the condition of the objects. These highly decorative plates were made in China in the18th century. The cobalt blue color which was used for the decoration, indicates that they were produced in the Qianlong (Kien Lung, Chien Lung) period, which covers a large part of the 18th century (1736 -1795). From the 16th century onwards many Chinese products were exported to Europe. Oriental porcelain was imported to The Netherlands by the Dutch East Indies Company (V.O.C.), which had commercial privileges to China and Japan. The wealthy Dutch upper class adored the subtle China ware and large quantities were shipped to Holland in the 17th and 18th centuries. Although manufactured to be used, most of this Oriental porcelain was put on display in special China cabinets or hung on the wall in distinguished houses. All plates measure 9 1/4 inches (23,5 cms.) across. I guarantee age (18th century) and authenticity of these superb collector's items. Please note that this auction does not include the display stands visible on the picture.PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE A MATCHING PAIR OF PLATES WITH A SIMILAR DESIGN NOW LISTED ON EBAY.
