Specific Lot Description: Up for auction is my Lot # 16 of Confederate money. Lot 16 consists of three Confederate Ten Dollar notes. Photo #2 shows the reverse side of the three notes. Photo #3 is the front of the top note, photo #4 is the middle note and photo #5 is the bottom note. I am selling these to liquidate a family collection. These are being sold with NO RESERVE, AS IS and NO RETURN.General Comment on Condition: I am not a currency collector and am not qualified to make any claim as to condition. The photos are your only means of judging condition. I am aware that some Confederate notes have particular features that are rare and make them more valuable. I do not know if any of these notes have special features. Again, if you know what to look for, the photos should show special features. Except for the mixed group of notes in Lot 3 and the $50 & $100 notes in Lot 5, all of the Lots are single bills ($20’s and one $50) or groups of the same denomination (fives and tens). Excepting Lot 3, most of the notes are complete. I did not attempt to smooth out wrinkles or folds to avoid damaging the notes.General Comment on History of this Collection: I am selling my family collection of 47 Confederate notes. I have broken the collection up in to 20 Lots. Each Lot is described individually. I know that these Confederate notes are authentic. Each Lot will include my signed statement of provenance including a description of the notes in the Lot (generally the note denomination and serial number). Here is the statement of provenance with names removed. The actual signed provenance that you will receive will be complete.Confederate Money Provenance I, Seller, certify by my signature below, that the following is an accurate writing of the ownership history of the Confederate Note(s) identified below. This note(s) was part of a family collection that was past down to me. The collection of notes was in the attic of the family home located in Charlotte, North Carolina at the intersection of Providence Road and XXXX Road. The house was built in the 1760s and was known as the "X Place". My grandfather purchased the house and 100 acres about 1903 at the time of his marriage to XXXX. He purchased the property from another family member. My father, XXXX, Jr. (1905 – 1994) was born in the house. The house continued to be the family residence until my grandmother moved to a daughter’s home in 1959. The house was vacant from 1959 on and was a source of concern to the family, as maintenance became an issue. About 1966, the North Carolina Division of State Historic Sites (NCHS) approached the family. The NCHS was beginning a reproduction of the James K. Polk home in Pineville, NC and was interested in the house as a source of period materials. An agreement was reached that the NCHS would demolish the house at no charge in exchange for the materials. The house was torn down in 1966 - 67. During the period 1959 – 1967 family members removed the personal property from the home. My father personally removed the Confederate money collection from the attic of the home. At this time his family gave it to him. It remained in our family and was passed down to me at the time of my mother’s death in 2010. The Confederate money collection was in the safe deposit box that mother shared with my father. The above is factual information. My father told me that he believed that the Confederate money had been in the attic since the Civil War. Since members of the family had continuously owned the house from its origins, this is a reasonable assumption.
