three hollow-cut silhouettes all with annotation by Edward Williams Clay. One having an ink inscription below the portrait, Charles Heyward South Carolina Oct 16, 1820; additionally, below in pencil aged 19 plus cut at Peale`s Museum at the upper left. Another having a pencil inscription Charles Heyward 1820; PLUS another with pencil inscription C. Heyward 1822 and cut at Peale`s Museum at the upper left. Verso on all bears an ink inscription Property of Miss Mary Clay Bolton, Mechanics and Metals Bank 204 Fifth Avenue, New York City. All have been tipped to a later backing board and placed in a black painted frame (probably in the 1920s); 3.75` x 4.88` (image); 5.75` x 7.25` (w/frame).
