This flag has inscribed in the white bunting " Vice Admiral Set 6 Mare Island Oct 1943." Attached to the flag is a cloth nametag dated DEC 1943 that gives as the flag" "DETINATION" the ship entitled CVE 80, which is the USS Petroff Bay. The tag provides the ITEM # as well as the INVENTORY # . It also has attached to it a cardboard disk indicating VICE ADML #6. This flag is 100% wool with separately applied cotton stars. This is NOT the cheap nylon Post WW II flags currently sold. This is an original WW II flag. The measurements are 43X62. T are numerous small moth holes, but they do not detract from the impressive appearance of this WW II relic. The USS Petroff Bay was an escort carrier. It participated in the Leyte Gulf sea battle. T are numerous references to it in Rear Admiral Morison's 15 Volume History of US Naval Operations in WW II. T are references to it in Volumes 12, 13 and 14. This flag is not a reproduction. The flag is made of wool. It has some minor moth holes (as one would expect from a period piece). I accept checks and money orders. I will accept PAYPAL from an overseas winner If you have an Ebay feedback score of 5 or less, you may not bid on this auction unless you contact me before bidding. If you do not contact me before bidding, your bid will be cancelled.
