Threshold NS10 Preamplifier. The Thresholds NS10 preamplifier was Nelsen Pass's 1st preamp that he designed for the consumer market. The NS10 is still considered one of his crown achievements. All the nasty tantalum capacitor s have been replaced with Elna Silmic II and Vishay caps in the modules. Nichicon Muse caps on the main board. The large power supply cap was replaced with a Sprague Atom and the row of 4 caps are Nichicon Muses's. Before the upgrade this was a pretty nice sounding preamp, a bit flat but not offensive. After renewing this baby I would put it up against any SS preamp under $2500. The bass in deep and tight. Mid's through the high end are smooth with great 3D imaging. You won't be disappointed. There is a bit of noise with the volume pot when you first turn it on but it goes away after 10 minutes or so. I always left the preamp powered-up so it never was an issue for me. I suppose it could be replaced if that bothers you but it never did for me so I left it alone. I just want to make sure I cover everything about the unit. Other than that, it works as it should.
