Thrilling Wonder Stories - 1940-47 Lot of 15 Issues (Pulps) My initial interest and pursuit of collecting pulps was to obtain the otherwise, unpublished material of favorite science fiction, horror & fantasy writers. As a graphic artist, the covers and interior art was another factor for their appeal. Henry Kuttner, Edmond Hamilton, Arthur Burks, Ray Cummings, Manly Wade Wellman (a nice gentleman I once had the opportunity to meet) and Murray Leinster are some of the writers that are prominent during this period of Thrilling Wonder. From 1930-1936, this pulp was known as Wonder Stories. I have listed some of the authors in most of the issues below. All also have other authors & storie as well as articles. I have also mentioned the major defects of the pulps. Thrilling Wonder Stories Sept 1940 Authors include Arthur Burks (novel), Ray Cummings and Edmond Hamilton. Front cover has several creases, back cover has more including edge tears. Front cover would still be very nice if not for the bottom right corner missing. Small piece of the corner left bottom from the back cover missing. About a 2” flap tear at the bottom right bottom corner. Spine is complete with several crease ‘tears’. Supple pages. Thrilling Wonder Stories Nov 1940 Authors include Henry Kuttner and Arthur Burks. Various light wear, small tear at the top left. Spine is complete with a couple spots of wear at the edges. Tears that are common with the overhang edges. Corner creases on the back cover at the top & bottom (larger) left. Light rubbed marks near the center-it doesn’t scratch the surface. (see photo). Some light pressure indentions. Thrilling Wonder Stories Dec 1940 Edmond Hamilton novel and stories by Manly Wade Wellman, Ray Cummings and others. Nice looking front. Discoloration to the top ½ inch and left corner (see photo). Corner upper left crease to the back cover affecting some interior pages slightly. 1 tear-crease on the back cover. Some common overhang tear, more so on the back cover bottom. Some discoloration on the back cover-upper margins. Spine has 2 gouges at the edge-back cover. Top tip & bottom tips missing (spine). T is some frey, wear through at the spine edge of the front side also. Thrilling Wonder Stories March 1941 Very nice copy of this issue. 1 novel, 2 novelettes and 4 short stories. Also, t are several features. Very nice ‘face’. Cover overhang, more so on the back cover- a number of very short tears. A piece of clear tape at the spine bottom-wraps to the front and back (see scan for the front). Some separation of the front cover at the taped corner. Edge wear, especially at the bottom Right corner and some along the bottom edge is missing. Also, a chip missing from the top right corner. One long crease angled towards the spine starting at the top. Someone has penciled/scratched the trajectories of the bullet paths-a couple of points have punctured through. Some other creases and signs Thrilling Wonder Stories Feb. 1942 Strong line-up with a novel by Eando Binder, an novelette by Nelosn Bond (Weird Tales, Arkham House), and a short story by Ray Cummings along with other works. 5 penciled over the W-a newsstand arrival mark. Some edgewear, tiny tear on the cover overhangs. Small chip out of the left bottom, near the corner (see photo). Overall, the cover face is nice. A couple of light crease and bindery creasing laterally along the spine’s edge, front & back cover. Spine has started to fade. Ink number at the top left of the back cover. Former owner’s stamp (light) on the cover (can be seen in the photo). Thrilling Wonder Stories Apr. 1942 Complete novel by Henry Kuttner. Also fiction by Frank Belknap Long, Ray Cummings and others. Light creases and edgewear and a couple of right edge tears-one an inch long. Edge tears on the back cover, primarily at the left edge. Above average spine-a couple of ‘crease tears’ at the middle.
