You are looking at a vintage THS brand Surveying Transit. It is model 7401 made in Japan. It also has the number 60148 written on it. The transit works great and was very well taken care of. When I looked through the sight, I could spy very nicely on the neighbors - not really, but I could see / read things that our binoculars do not see. I did not see any scratches / etc... on or through the lenses. (I am not an expert by any means, I might have missed what an expert eye would see) all of the dials / knobs on the transit turn nice and smooth - the bubbles in all of the levels work great also. There are a few spots on the transit (they look like dirt in the picture - I tried to wipe them with a damp cloth but they came right back) where the paint has rubbed off. They do not look very bad at all. You might even be able to touch them up a bit. The transit will come to you with a nice brass plumb bob - it is marked K + E 830004. It has a few scratches / dings on it from everyday use. The string on it has been added to and has some knots in it. You can easily replace the string - the top of the plumb bob screws off. The plumb bob fits nicely in a leather pouch on the inside of the case. You will also receive a metal tube - I am not sure what it does or where it goes. It is in great shape and has a special holder in the case. The transit will come to you with a very nice wooden case. It has dovetail corners and a nice leather handle. It has a keyed lock - I do not have a key for it. It has nice clasp? locks on the side. The case has many scratches / dings - it is still very nice looking and as solid as ever. There is a sticker on the front of the case and two on the inside - I think that you could take them off with a bit of work if you do not want them there. This is a very nice vintage transit. It would make a great addition to any collection......Or use it as it was intended......
