Hither and YonView Feedback Email hitherandyon Aloha This listing is for the pictured Tibetan Buddhist Singing Bowl handmade in the himalayas View All Items View Auctions Only View Store Items This Singing Bowl is very unique ~ It features the central image of Manjushree the "God of Divine Wisdom" and the chakra healing tone for this bowl is the Crown Chakra, also associated with wisdom. This particular singing bowl is just beautiful, much better than the photos appear. Outside the bowl in wonderful script is the Buddhist prayer mantra, Om mani padme hum encircling the prayer bowl four times. Inside the bowl are the eight auspicous symbols in Tibetan Buddhism, Astha Mangala (Sanskrit), and the protection prayer again, om mani padme hum . These encircle a raised relief etching of Manjushree whose flaming sword cuts through the veil of ignorance. The singing bowl measures approximately 8" wide, stands 4 1/4" tall, and weighs 4 lbs 8 oz. The bowl comes with the pictured wooden striker which measures approximately 8" long. It has a great sound, very crisp and clear B note. The sustain on this bowl is superb, it sings for several minutes! to listen to the bowl being 'gonged', struck lightly with a felt wrapped mallet (I strike all the bowls with the same mallet for consistency / this bowl sings for much longer than the short sound clip) . The Chakra healing tone for this bowl is B. This is the Seventh Chakra, known as the Head of Crown Chakra, situated at the very top of the head. MANJUSHREE Manjushree is the "God of Divine Wisdom", whose worship confers mastery of the Dharma, retentive memory, mental perfection and eloquence. Manjushree is also one of the forms of Bodhisatwas and he symbolies wisdom. In Nepal, he is considered as the founder of Nepalese civilization and the creator of Kathmandu Valley. According to the tradition, he was a Chinese Saint. His intuition told him of the blue flame (symbolizing Adibuddha or Swayambhu) on a lotus in the big lake of Nepal. He went t to offer worship, but could not reach because of the water. He cut with his sword the southern wall of the hills. The water of the lake drained to the south. The dry valley became the Kathmandu Valley. He carries the sword of wisdom and light in his right hand and Prajnaparmita manuscipt "the book of Divine Wisdom" on his left on the lotus blossom. His left hand will be in teaching gesture (jnan Mudra.) He is also called Manjunghose, Manju Bara, Vajranga and Vagiswara. People believe that the worship of Manjushree can confer upon them wisdom, memory, and intelligence. Om Mani Padme Hum has no direct English translation, but often used as a guide is "Hail the jewel in the heart of lotus" or "Behold! The jewel in the lotus!". The Dalai Lama has given a synopsis of its meaning as "Thus the six syllables, Om Mani Padme Hum, mean that in dependence on the practice which is an indivisible union of method and wisdom, you can transform your impure body, speech and mind into the pure body, speech, and mind of a Buddha." It is thought that all the teachings of the Buddha are contained in this one prayer, and that the recitation of the mantra helps achieve perfection in the six practices from generosity to wisdom.
