Soon after Jiang’s paintings were “discovered” by a reporter working for the National Geographic in China, Jiang’s life changed forever. His biography is readily available on the Internet, but, in shorthand: “A friend of the reporter brought them to the Fingerhut Gallery in Minneapolis, where Jiang's work met with great success. In 1983, Jiang came to the United States as part of a cultural exchange program with the University of Southern California, where he became a visiting Professor of Art.” ~ from GalArt The title of this stunning serigraph is “Mountain Ghost,” and the edition is limited to 50, this being an artist’s proof. (#28 of 50) Overall, including striking black frame = 42 ½” by 42 ½” Visible Image = 31 ½” square This piece was in the collection of Mr. Frederick Thomas of Cincinnati, Ohio. I am currently selling the contents for the family/POA after Mr. Thomas was stricken by a debilitating illness. It is a large piece in a beautiful black matt lacquer frame, and it is signed (lower right) , numbered (lower left), and enhanced by the artist’s hand. I found a book in Mr. Thomas’ library, titled: Jiang – Father of the Yunnan School : 1998 First Edition, by Joan Lebold Cohen. I will be listing the book today. Under the sponsorship of Allan Fingerhut, Jiang moved to Minnesota with his wife Zhaolin. For Jiang, success in America quickly followed. His rich, strong color, and exotic but intimate imagery struck an immediate response with the American public.
