This Tiffany Sterling Silver Tea Service belonged to the Academy Award winning Best Actress for the movie Peyton Place in 1958, Lana Turner was discovered in Schwabs Drugstore in the 1930's. Some of her more famous roles were in "The Postman Always Rings Twice" and "The Bad and the Beautiful." Who knows what stories this Tiffany Tea Service could tell? Was it a wedding present from Louis B Mayer for one of her 7 marriages, was Lana Turners boyfriend Johnny Stompenado stabbed to death over a cup of tea? Each piece of the service is marked Tiffany Sterling with a pattern number. It is in excellent condition overall and weighs 114 Troy Oz's. It includes a Hot Water/Tea Kettle, Coffee Pot, Milk Pot, Sugar Bowl and Creamer all circa the late 1940's. Included is the provence in the form of a letter from Abels Auctions in LA stating that this Tiffany Tea service came from the estate of Lana Turner.
All pieces are monogramed with a "T" The corresponding numbers on the bottom of each piece are Creamer (1 Pint) and Sugar Bowl (1 3/4 Pints) have the same number 18818- Makers-6724, The Hot Water Tea Kettle (4 1/2 Pints) , Stand and Burner are marked 13313-Makers- 6799, Coffee Pot (3 1/2 Pints) 18818-6724, and Water/Milk Pitcher (2 Pints)18818-10592. All pieces are marked Tiffany & Co" "Sterling Silver" "925-1000" with what looks like an "m" below. As of today (3/3/08) I do not have a digital camera that will take clear photos of the Hallmarks on the bottom of each piece. The letter that accompanies this set is a bit on the fragile side now and is short and to the point. Stating that "The AN Abel Auction Co sold a "Tiffany Sterling Silver 5 Piece Teas Service "18818-10592, 114.8 Troy Ounces belonging to the estate of Lana Turner. This item was listed as #344 in our auction dated 9/21/97. The set was sold to (my name " Also with the letter I have the LA Times advertisment announicing the 9/21/97 auction featuring items from the Lana Turner estate which included an abreviated list of the items to be auctioned. I am the orginal buyer of the set from AN Abels on 9/21/97 and will so state.
