Wedgwood Dancing Hours Style Tile Available for purchase is a rectangular tile / plaque in the style of the Wedgwood Dancing Hours pattern, blue jasperware. It features six white classical figures in raised relief resembling a cameo. I am acting as a selling agent for the owner of this item, a long-time family friend, who has moved to a much smaller space and is paring down her collectibles. She and her late husband lived in New York City for much of their lives, and frequently traveled down south to visit relatives in his native Georgia. Upon his retirement, they permanently relocated to GA. Unfortunately, he was stricken with cancer a few years later, and died in a very short time. She decided to return north to NY, but discovered she could no longer tolerate harsh northern winters, and graced us with her presence down south once again. She is a lovely lady with great taste and style. Some of the items that I am selling for her were acquired at antique shops in New York, some are from her personal collections, and some were gifts. Now back to the tile - my friend bought two of these at a antique shop in NYC a number of years ago. The shop owner said that they had come from a home demolition, and had been used on a fireplace as part of a mantel frieze. The mortar was still on the back of them. She had the two tiles framed together in a single open frame and displayed them in this manner. The mortar has been removed from the back, and t is no Wedgwood mark. I know that Wedgwood used an impressed mark in most all of their jasper pieces, so I'm not sure if the mark was removed along with the mortar, if t was no mark used, or if these are lookalikes. Seems logical that they may not have marked the mantel frieze pieces, as they would have been affixed to a fireplace, but I do not claim to be an expert. So I cannot positively identify them as authentic Wedgwood, but I'm betting that they are. I am listing each of the tiles in separate auctions, so please check my other listings if you are interested in bidding on both. They are not identical; the figures on each are in different poses. If one buyer wins both auctions, the frame will also be included if you would like. I'm listing this tile as "B" and the second one as "A." Please feel free to ask any questions. Condition is good. T are no chips or cracks. Tile shows a very slight amount of soil / darkening, probably from years of fireplace smoke, which gives it a nice vintage look. Traces of the mortar remain on the sides and back. Please see the photos of front, back, and side view; I have supersized so you can get a good close look. Tile measures 7 1/4" x 2 ½", and is 5/16" in thickness. Please be sure to check my other auctions and my eBay store. I sell a variety of items, and you can buy with confidence!
