Up for auction is an antique, hand-made tin- or silver-lined brass bleeding bowl that reveals seven or more instances of professional metal-smithing repairs perhaps because the item was so useful and badly needed, durable and repairable, and sufficiently scarce to justify rather extensive time and materials required to repair it. The bowl, dating from eighteenth or very early nineteenth century, measures five inches in diameter by three and one half inches deep and the handle is two inches wide by two and one half inches long. The basic metal is brass for the bowl and handle and the bowl is lined with tin or silver or some alloy of metals that would patch the holes without compromising the integrity of the contents. The bowl has a pouring spout with repairs to the handle, the bottom of the bowl, three splits to the rim, and a reinforcing brass addition to the entire rim of the bowl. This fascinating piece is unmarked as to maker or origin, but it bears the marks that only accrue to a medical tool with significant use and age. I am proud to offer you this rare collector's artifact, and it can be a part of your collection for a small opening bid. Thank you for visiting my auctions, and good luck to you in your bidding.
