THIS AUCTION CONTAINS A TINTYPE OF THREE (3) GIBBS BROTHERS, MEMBERS OF THE 6TH TENNESSEE CAVALRY. W. H. Gibbs, James Gibbs and John Gibbs. These are the 3 men's signatures, that appear on the back. The card 3 7/8" X 2 3/8", with the tintype 2 5/8" 1 3/4" in size. T are no duplicates in tintypes, not llike C.D.V.'s., this is the one and only original image taken, as you see it. Regiment History Sixth CavalryTENNESSEE(3-YEARS) Sixth Cavalry. -- Cols., Fielding Hurst, William J. Smith; Lieut.-Cols., William K. M. Breckenridge, Orlando H. Shearer; Majs., Eldredge S. Tidwell, Daniel M. Emerson, Thomas H. Boswell, Robert M. Thompson Thomas A. Smith, Mack J. Leaming, Stanford L. Warren. This regiment was partially recruited and organized at Bethel, W. Va., and was mustered into service Nov. 13, 1862, under the command of Fielding Hurst. It entered upon arduous scouting duty in that region and did valuable service in destroying guerrilla bands. It was subsequently ordered west, and upon the retreat of Gen. Price from Corinth it went in pursuit, capturing 250 prisoners without the loss of a man. While on this campaign it was also engaged with the enemy at Salem and Wyatt, Miss.
