A very pretty slightly battered pill box Solid silver with London import marks together with the M & L 'maker's' stamp and .925, together with date letter f for 1901 Not sure of origin, the box is impressed foreign along the inner slip of the lid (also London import and 925 stamps on lid) Embossed and heavily decorated on every surface, the lid has 4 small seed pearls and two small turquoise gem stones set into the surface together with remains of very brightly coloured enamels to the flower motifs The sides have scrolling baroque moulding and the base is further embellished with a single rose design On base and sides the yellow gilding has almost completely worn away - more remains on the top and it is possible to imagine how brightly this must have shone originally Very distinctive decorative style, the box measures just 1. 5/8th" long and 1" wide (42mm x 25mm). It is just 3/8th" tall. (10mm) Please view heavily magnified photographs to get a good sense of condition before bidding. Weighs 22gms Hinge is sound and moulded 'handle' to lid fully intact
