You are bidding on a wonderful, old, Very Rare Antique Flow Blue Demitasse Cup & Saucer Setby John Maddock & Sons, England,c. 1880 âe" 1896!! >>>THIS DAINTY DEMITASSE CUP STANDS AT UNDER TWO INCHES TALL!!<<<The saucer is marked with the manufacturerâe(tm)s mark (Mark #83 from Mary Frank Gastonâe(tm)s Flow Blue Encyclopedia)while the matching cup isnâe(tm)t marked (not uncommon; typical for Flow Blue).I looked in my Flow Blue books to see if I can figure out what the name of the pattern is, but I couldn't tell with any certainty.It is so pretty & dainty!My photos below don't begin to do this set the true justice it deserves!It is far prettier in person!(Please excuse any white spots or lines in the pics; they are from flash, sunlight & reflection.)BOTH the cup & saucer have raised embossing (like Rococo trim)!The saucer also has a scalloped edge. Both are beautiful, but with all the raised embossing,this highly detailed Demitasse Cup is out of this world!! This is a GREAT find!!VERY RARE to find OLD ANTIQUE ENGLISH FLOW BLUE in a Demitasse Cup & Saucer Set!!Not only do you almost never find a Flow Blue Demitasse Cup; but to have theMATCHING SAUCER is a real find!! THE TINY, DAINTY DEMITASSE CUP STANDS AT 1-13/16" TALL!!The saucer measures 4-7/8" in diameter! THIS IS THE TINIEST ENGLISH FLOW BLUE DEMISTASSE CUPWE HAVE OWNED OR SEEN! MOST ARE OVER 2" TALL! This is such a great dainty set!!It is in overall EXCELLENT condition; with no breaks or repairs!To go over this with a fine tooth comb: at the rim of the saucer, t is a flake of the flow blue off the size ofthe point of a pin; and another, the size of the head of a pin. NEITHER are noticeable due to size & position of wthey are; they are so minute; you would have to look for them super close & even then have a problem finding them.Further on the back by the rim t is a tiny thin line in the glaze, that I believe to be just that; in the glaze; as itcannot be felt with a fingernail, & does not go through to the other side, so I believe it is not a hairline.This, too, is hard to find unless under super close scrutiny.I normally don't mention or point out things done in the manufacture, as everyone knows that every piece ofgenuine antique flow blue has 'something'; & again, when it is done in the manufacture, it is not damage;but I am mentioning the following for clarification: on the cup, t is a tiny firing line on the handle;again, done in the manufacturing during the firing process;common/typical for Flow Blue; so many pieces have this; mentioned purely for accuracy.VIRTUALLY MOST OF, IF NOT ALL OF THE GOLD TRIM IS STILL PRESENT ON BOTH THE RIM OF THE CUPAS WELL AS THE RIM OF THE PLATE!!To be super picky, t is a spot in the bottom that is a bit darker than the rest of the bottom of the white cup;I never tried to remove it; this is to be expected for a cup; mentioned purely for accuracy (people surelyunderstand & expect if flow blue has a dark spot in the bottom of a cup!).I couldnâe(tm)t even get this to show up in a photo; again, to be expected; not sure why I am even mentioning it!Flow Blue is known to have crazing over the years; but this set is in EXCELLENT condition; four small, thin, clean, light craze lines in the glaze in the saucer, w the cup would sit.I am actually mentioning this to point out what wonderful condition this set is in!!!!!
