Item Description: A 20"L x 9"H x 3"W hand made model of the Titanic. This model is handmade by skillful and experienced craftsmen. It is built according to scale of the original ship through original plans or pictures using the plank on frame construction. The hull is hand painted and made of Mahogany wood with frame made of Linden wood. Inside the hull, we use high quality epoxy which helps the thin wooden bars to bond close to one another and not split, crack or twist even in variable weather conditions. Our models are completely buil t from scratch, NOT from kit . Each model comes with a stand for display. All the wood is naturally seasoned and kiln dry before use to make sure that the completed products withstand any climate. This is fully assembled and ready to display. About the Titanic: Bound for New York City on April 10, 1912 from Southampton , England , Titanic was perhaps the most well-known luxury ocean liner in history when it sank during its maiden voyage. Thought to be unsinkable, it met its fate when it was hit by an iceberg in the North Atlantic , causing it to sink, along with more than 1,500 of its passengers. Only 705 survived and made it to New York in the rescue efforts. The Royal Mail Ship (RMS) Titanic was designed to be one of the greatest achievements of an era of prosperity, confidence, and propriety known as the Gilded Age. White Star Line, one of the industry leaders, focused on size and elegance rather than just speed. The RMS Titanic, named by J.BRUCE ISMAY, was built in March 1909 and was launched on May 31, 1911. During the two years it took to complete Titanic's hull, publicity about the ship's magnificence made Titanic a legend before its first cruise. The "launch" of the completed steel hull was heavily publicized.Titanic was a massive ship--883 feet long, 92 feet wide, and displacing (or weighing) 52,310 long tons ( a long ton is 2240 pounds). It was 175 feet tall from the keel to the top of the four stacks or funnels, almost 35 feet of which was below the waterline. Titanic was taller above the water than most urban buildings of the time! T were three real smokestacks; with a fourth "dummy" stack added to increase the impression of its size and power and to vent smoke from the ship's numerous galleys. At the time, Titanic was the largest ever movable man-made object. Titanic was designed to be a marvel of modern safety technology and her accommodations were the most modern and luxurious on any ocean. It had a double-hull of 1-inch thick steel plates and made up of 16 water-tight compartments sealed by massive doors that could be instantly triggered by a single electric switch on the bridge, or even automatically by electric water-sensors.The press labeled the ship " unsinkable. "Titanic's accommodations were considered the most modern and luxurious on any ocean, and included electric light and heat in every room, electric elevators, a swimming pool, a squash court, a Turkish bath, a gymnasium with a mechanical horse and mechanical camel to keep riders fit, and staterooms and first-class facilities to rival the best hotels on the Continent.The ship's much-publicized maiden voyage lured British nobility, members of American society and industrialists, as well as many poor emigrants hoping to begin a new life in America . The journey began at Southampton, England , at noon on April 10, 1912. By nightfall Titanic had stopped in Cherbourg , France , to pick up additional passengers. That evening it sailed for Queenstown , Ireland , and at 1:30 PM on April 11, the ship headed into the Atlantic Ocean toward New York City .By all accounts, the night was uncommonly clear and dark, and the weather was pleasant and clear.Unfortunately, at 11:40 p.m. on the 14th April 1912, the greatest maritime disaster in history began.
