WORK: Large carved or molded sculptural Native American ceremonial bowl in the form of a mythological bird with human head as the tail. NO RESERVE! ARTIST: AMOS WALLACE [1921-2004] USA [signed "Amos Wallace" and "Griffins, Alaska"] MEDIUM: Looks like some sort of volcanic stone, but it may be cast clay DATE: 1961 REFERENCE[S]: Google and find a wealth of information about this well-respected artist from the Tlingit tribe. COLLECTIONS/EXHIBITIONS: various museums throughout North America have totem poles from Mr. Wallace in their collections CONDITION: Good. One ear has a flake [see photo]. The bowl appears to have been used to burn herbs or incense, so the bottom is lighter than the rest of the sculpture. This lighter coloration appears elsew on the sculpture, e.g., the wings, and can be darkened again to a uniform color with plain vegetable oil if you don't intend to burn anything in it. APPROXIMATE DIMENSIONS: 11"L x 7 ½"W x 4 3/8"H SHIPPING COSTS: Insured shipping [including proper packing, etc.] via USPS Priority Mail within the USA will be $18. If you live outside the USA, please email me for a guaranteed shipping quote. Thanks. THE "FINE PRINT": These are vintage items and are sold AS IS, but I do my best to be quite thorough in my descriptions of condition with the following exception: many items come directly from local estate sales and may retain odors from previous owners [tobacco smoke, moth balls, pets, medicines, etc.]. NO WARRANTY WHATSOEVER is ever made regarding such odors. If the lack of odor is important to you, please do not bid on my auctions since I am not sensitive to such smells and will not be able to tell you more about this item in this regard. With that exception, if I have missed anything substantial in the condition report, I will, of course, work it out with you within reason. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK QUESTIONS, preferably in advance of bidding. Buyer is responsible for shipping and insurance fees as stated above [or as quoted to you during the auction if you live outside the flat fee shipping area]. Stated/quoted fees may also include a small amount for packaging, but when you open your package, you will know that little bit extra is a bargain [please see feedback for comments]. For U.S. buyers, payment may be made by Paypal or by money order or cashier's check. For items selling under $100, I will accept a personal check if that is easier for you [item held 10 business days or until funds are fully cleared]. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS: Payments by bank-to-bank wire transfer or Paypal in U.S. Dollars...please no exceptions. International shipments go out insured USPS AIRMAIL OR USPS GLOBAL EXPRESS only...NO SURFACE MAIL ON INTERNATIONAL. E-mail acknowledgment by buyer must be received within 48 hours of auction close, and payment must be received within 7 calendar days of auction close or I may relist, offer to the second high bidder, etc. Florida residents must add 7% sales tax unless I receive a signed copy of your current tax-exemption form.
