1912 TLM Thomas L. Mott Sterling Silver Enamel Butterfly Pin This is an extraordinary English enamelled butterfly pin made of sterling silver and kiln fired (vitreous glass) enamel. It bears full hallmarks for Birminingham, UK, 1912/1913 (anchor, lion rampant, and n) as well as TLM for Thomas L. Mott. It has the most fabulous autumn color combination of rich violet purples, golden yellow, and rose, accented with hand-painted black markings. The translucent enamel is applied over a textured surface that gives the appearance of a butterfly wing, and in fact, Mott popularized the use of real morpho butterfly wings in jewelry. Condition: The enamel is in excellent vintage condition (no chips, cracks, flakes); the original simple c-clasp appears to have been retrofitted with a roll-over safety clasp. It looks like a very old replacement (if it is not original to the piece), as the patina surrounding the base of the clasp is intact and t is no solder visible. This almost-antique (late Edwardian) piece measures 1 1/2" by 3/4". Shipping Shipping charges are $3.00 for domestic and $6.00 for international.
