Staff 7 Large decorative copper view after Blaeu of Tokaji "Tokay superioris Hungariae natura looi munitissimum pro-pugnaculum." Amsterdam, um 1650 A.D. aus "Theatrum Praecipuarum Urbium" [Janssonius Städtebuch] CARTOGRAPHER: Johann Janssonius (* 1588; + 1664; acturally Jan Jansson ) Janssonius was a dutch cartographer and publisher. DESCRIPTION: This wonderful view was published in the Janssonius town books in 1650. The town books contain views of cities and towns from all over the world and were published at a time when Joannes and Cornelis Blaeu were still planning their "cities of the world". But contrary to what the Blaeus had produced and were to produce, Janssonius's work was not original throughout. Janssonius had acquired the plates of the Civitates orbis terrarum from Abraham Hogenberg. The bulk was incorporated into the townbooks. For many plates of the cities of the Netherland, Janssonius ordered copper plates, newly engraved after the orininals by Blaeu. Further artists are only partly known.The large and excellent engraving shows the city of Tokaji in Hungary . On the back you can see some descriptions in Latin language. Tokaji lies in Hungary in the main wine growing area. BESCHREIBUNG: Diese wundervolle Ansicht wurde um 1650 im Janssonius Städtebuch veröffentlicht. Die Städtebücher enthielten Ansichten von Großstädten und Kleinstädten aus der ganzen Welt. Wahrend die Gebrüder Blaeu noch an ihrem "Städte der Welt" feilten, veröffentlichte Janssonius als Konkurrent bereits die ersten Ausgaben. Janssonius hat die meisten dieser Ansichten nicht selbst gestochen, sondern er kaufte die originalen Druckplatten von Abraham Hogenberg und lies weitere Platten nach den Originalen von Blaeu anfertigen. Weitere Künstler dieses Werkes sind nur teilweise namentlich bekannt.Die hervorragend gestochene großformatige Ansicht zeigt die Stadt Tokaji in Ungarn.
