This listing is for a beautiful custom bound copy of J.R.R Tolkien's " The Silmarillion ." This particular copy is a first impression, first state of the first edition (bearing the minor textual variation on p.352) , published in 1977 by George Allen & Unwin, and printed in London by William Clowes & Sons, Ltd . This edition is commonly referred to as the " Export Edition ." It is edited by and contains a forward written by Christopher Tolkien. This book was recently professionally and meticulously hand-bound in full grain goat leather and is protected by a matching leather traycase. Features of this very rare and collectable piece include: -Full grain goat leather binding ( Dark Blue Morocco )- -Full leather matching traycase, with gold cloth lining - -All edges of the textblock have been trimmed and gold gilded - -'Tengwar script' title and author gilt stamped to the front boards, with large gilt stamped heraldic device, which Tolkien designed to represent Luthien Tinuviel (Note: Tray case is stamped (Tengwar script) with "John Ronald Reuel Tolkien", while the book itself is stamped "J.R.R. Tolkien.") - -Raised spine ribs, with small version of heraldic device, and title, author, publisher, and date published ( all in English ) gilt stamped in the spine compartments - -Rear boards have the ' JRRT' monogram gilt stamped -
