To my regular customers: I am back listing more tools, taking another break from a kitchen remodel. I have a LOT of great tools that I will be listing, plus my usual "one man's junk is another man's treasure" tools and parts.You are bidding on one J R Tolman 5/8" full boxed double bead wood molding or moulding plane as pictured. Tolman was probably the most prolific of a handful of makers who used double irons on molding planes, which is rare. And since this is a double bead, it has two pair of irons, or as I said in the title -- 4 irons. Not how the British would do 4 irons, but 4 irons nonetheless. It is marked "J R TOLMAN HANOVER MASS" and owner "H MAYO" (t is a familiar last name to plane collectors!) on the front end, and "5/8" twice on the back end. Overall length is 9-7/16", and the body is 2-3/4" in width. The Tolman mark is rated 2 stars for rarity in AWP4 (American Wooden Planes 4th Edition, THE book if you collect American molding planes).Condition is mostly very good, except that a past owner has shaved down the side of each wedge. They are obviously original to the plane, and not replacements. T is a crack towards the front of each piece of boxing, a crack extending up into the body from the upper corner of the left hand piece at both ends, but otherwise the boxing is in very good condition.
