Here is a fantastic flat rimmed soup or salad bowl manufactured by Mayer China sometime between the 1920's – 1940's for use at The Toy Town Tavern, located in Winchendon, Massachusetts. The Toy Town Tavern is now the home of the Winchendon School Golf Club. The Toy Town Tavern got its name from the town of Winchendon which had the nickname Toy Town because of the large amounts of toys that were manufactured there at the Converse Toy Company. In 1912 he reconstructed the old farmhouse and opened the Toy Town Tavern overlooking Lake Watatic. Many famous people and celebrities stayed at the tavern. The great inventor Thomas Edison, Norman Rockwell and his wife, Joseph Kennedy and his family and President Taft enjoyed many weekends at the tavern. The Toy Town Tavern was a year-round resort that offered golf, tennis, horseback riding, skating, snow-shoeing and tobogganing. In 1917 the tavern’s ski jump was reported to be the longest east of St. Paul, Minnesota. The B&M Railroad also went through the town. This bowl measures read more
