You are bidding a handwritten section of a 500 year old deer skin Torah Scroll from Persia. This one is very, very old and well preserved. This section is The Creation of the Universe and Adam fromGenesis - Bereshit 1:1-2:18. It is a very old fragment possibly as old as the 15 th Century and it is from Persia. Scrolls from Persia are very distinctive in their deep brown color and very rare as well. This deep brown color is due to the deer parchement that is used and the process used in making the scroll. Scrolls of this type are no longer made and the process for making these distinctive scrolls has been lost over the centuries. This process causes the Scroll to age to a deep brown color through the years. This very soft leather parchment holds its ink very well and the letters remain very dark and easy to read despite centuries of use in the Synagogue. The piece measures approx. 20x10 inches. Shipping to USA is $12, we are in the US so you do not wait for overseas delivery nor pay the high price and you will have your fragment in days not weeks. Shipping elsew in the world $15. Torah fragments are a significant investment and a sound one if you are careful in your purchase. are some things to look for that will detract from the price of the fragment. White spots on the parchment are an indication of a poor quality repair to the text and always detract from the appearance and value. You may see small white spots w a letter was replace or a whole line or section. These repairs are done by painting the parchment and then correcting the letter. Dark staining to the parchment or blurred letters are a sign of water damage and always detract from the appearance and value. The color of parchment may vary slightly without detracting from the value but beware of staining. Cracking and flaking letters also detract from the appearance, readability and value and should be avoided on single page fragments. Holes in the parchment are not desirable either; while they are common in very old sections and do not detract significantly from the value, they are better to be avoided particularly in the text. Onyourgates will not sell single page fragments with these problems, and you can rest assured, when you buy a Torah Fragment from Onyourgates that you will receive the best fragment and a sound investment. Visit my Ebay Store for some very, very rare fragments, they are listed as by it now. These include sections covering of the Ten Commandments, Creation, and other very rare pieces. A note about why I use a Private listing. T are unethical sellers who email offers to bidders on another sellers listing. The world has enough spam and so to protect buyers I use a private listing. If you are the winner, at your request, I will be happy to send a list of the other bidders to you at the end of the auction.
