This is a complete service for 12 in the lovely panelled Old Colonial pattern, made by Towle and introduced in 1895.
It includes 12 (5 piece) place settings, 4 serving pieces and 3 extra pieces for a total of 67 pieces. Also included are 5 tiny salt spoons (not shown) Knife blades are marked "Towle, sterling handle, stainless blade." 4 knives are New French Hollow handle; 8 are Modern Hollow handle knives. (See pictures) The forks are luncheon size. All pieces are in excellent condition, many appearing to have never been used. The design on the heel of the soup spoons has been slightly worn. T are no monograms or silver removals. They have all been cleaned but not polished. The reserve on this auction is 603.00 I hope someone buys this lovely set to use. On replacement websites, these pieces would sell for more than $2600.00 The silver weight is 92.21 Troy ounces; knife and butter spreader handle weights are included. (weight of the stainless knife blades deducted at 26.5 grams each) With "sterling" silver selling for over 10.25 per Troy ounce, the scrap value alone is 945.15. Place settings include: 12 Hollow handle knives, stainless blades - (4 New French - 8 3/4", 8 Modern - 8 7/8") 12 Forks (luncheon size) - 7 1/8" 12 Soup spoons (oval) - 7 1/8" 12 Teaspoons - 5 5/8" 12 Salad forks - 6 1/4" Serving pieces include: 2 Serving Spoons - 8 1/2" 1 Butter knife - 5 7/8" 1 Sugar spoon - 5 7/8" Extra pieces: 1 Soup spoon - 7 1/8" 2 Teaspoons - 5 5/8" 5 Salt spoons - 2 1/8" This set of Old Colonial sterling silver is guaranteed to be as described.
