Maddie Dee is a Girls Like Me doll that was inspired by my daughter Madison who was born with Spina Bifida, hydrocephalous, etc and is now 21 yrs old and THRIVING in college. I was very excited to participate in the Toy Like Me Challenge because Madison loved dolls so much as a child and I know she would have LOVED to have a doll "like her". Maddie Dee started her life as a hypersexualized Bratz doll and was thoroughly "made under", cleansed, repainted and restyled. Her afo's, loffstrand crutches, shoes and dress were all very carefully constructed to be as authentic as possible. The AFO's were made from polymer clay and painted with non toxic paints. Her loffstrand crutches were handcrafted from wooden dowels and polymer clay and painted and sealed. Her little canvas shoes were made using a Grace Filled Hands tututorial and her little dress was made using a Dolly Delicacies pattern. Madison loved dolls from her very first birthday and played with them daily. Each hospitalization and surgery meant a new doll, chosen especially by Madison. I have used many of HER collection for my new hobby. 100% of the proceeds from this auction will be donated to the Spina Bifida Association for all their hard work and support for new families who have a child with Spina Bifida.
