Here are three more pages of the scrapbook of antique laces collected by Ethel Traphagen (see below) The images and her descriptions are in the photos. If you need any further information , I will try to be of service. This is out of an estate and I am not familiar with lace. Ethel Traphagen was born in New York City. She was a well known name in fashion designfor many years. She and her husband, the famous and collected Southwest artist, William R. Leigh, founded and taught as well as administered The Traphagen School of Design at 1680 Broadway in New York City. The school closed in the early 1990’s. Among its famous students was Geoffrey Beene and James Galanos. Miss Traphagen studied at Cooper Union Art School, the National Academy of Design, the Art Students League, and the New York School of Fine and Applied Art. She also wrote and illustrated books on fashion. She became interested in lace because of her interest in fashion but also because she had inherited two caps from an ancestor. Her “scrapbook” has fragments of lace dating back to the 1500’s. They are basted onto stock about 10” by 14”. Most have descriptions and dates-others just description and a few read more
