This copy has the distinction of having been owned by Pierre Philippe Jean Marie D'Orléans, a grandson of the French king Louis Philippe. Pierre D'Orléans attended the U.S. Naval Academy during our Civil War. Annapolis being so close to the fighting, the USNA relocated temporarily to Newport, Rhode Island. D'Orléans' name appears at the top of the frontispiece (see photo).
