Earth Wood Beauty Dolls What are Earth Wood Beauty Dolls? EWB dolls were inspired by the wonderful doll artist, Sonia Singh and her Tree Change Dolls. For those of you who are unfamiliar with her work, Sonia Singh recently introduced the idea of recycling, and reusing old dolls, and turning them into something new, natural, and beautiful. Sonia uses Bratz dolls, and removes their faces using acetone, and eucalyptus oil. She then repaints their blank canvases creating natural looking children. Her mum includes hand knitted clothing, and together, they have created what are now known as “Tree Change Dolls.” As you can see, my creations are much different. She uses Bratz dolls, I use Barbies. She creates children, I create young adult women, men, fairies, geisha's, and beyond. I am in no way associated with Tree Change Dolls, but, I only felt it to be fair to mention how I was inspired. When I first came across her video that has gone viral on Facebook, youtube, and more, I instantly fell in love with the idea. I live a natural life, recycling has always been important to me, and, as the creator of EarthWoodBeauty organic beauty products, I felt that this would be a lovely addition to my business, as well as my life style. I have always been a crafter, and enjoyed turning trash into treasure. For me, this project just made perfect sense. I now have the opportunity to use all of my favorite hobbies, including, painting, sewing, hair styling, earthy fashion, and photography all in one. And now, I can share my creations with you. I hope that you will enjoy and love these dolls as much as I have making them. Please remember that these are not only dolls. They are dolls with a message. These dolls were found in thrift shops, and garage sales, ready for disposal. They now have a new lease on life. And thats what reusing, recycling, and rescuing is all about. Please enjoy! How Earth Wood Beauty Dolls are created: Earth Wood Beauty Dolls are created using used dolls found in various places. When I bring them home, I instantly remove their faces using acetone nail polish remover. After that, I bath and sanitize them head toe using organic soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. I then decide how I am going to style the dolls hair. If they are going to get curls, I use pipes cleaners, straws, bobbi pins, and braids to curl or wave the dolls hair. Boiling the hair keeps the style in tact. After boiling, I then move onto their faces. Acrylic paints are used for their make unders, along with tiny paint brushes. Each hair style is sprayed with organic oils for shine. Their clothing is all hand made using old, unwanted, and damage materials, such as clothing, pillow cases, table clothes, and so on. Their shoes are made with old materials from old, or broken purses, bracelets, necklaces, anything that I can find to make an adorable shoe. When the doll is complete with new hair, face, clothing, shoes, and accessories, I seal the dolls face with a satin varnish, and infuse a scent from an organic essential oil such as lavender, tea tree, patchouli, and so on. The entire process takes anywhere from 4-6 hours depending on the doll. The doll is then packaged in a box made by a recycling factory, and cushioned with dried cicil or paper shreds for protection. I try to personalize each box by decorating it with twine, threads, beads, pendants, and so on. Each doll includes a before and after photo. The specifics of this doll.
