Here is a wellpresented and unusual piece of Trench Art which will be of great interest to collectors, and probably more so to those with an engineering background. This is a totally inert sectioned German Dopp Z92. Sb15, Timer/ Percussion fuse. Although this fuse was developed in 1892, it was found near the village of Pozieres, which was totally destroyed during the batlle for the Somme in 1916 This is a very rare piece being this complete. It clearly shows the pellet, detonator and the firing needle on both the timer mechanism and the percussion mechanism (it is quite unusual to find the percussion pellet with the rest of the fuse) I honestly believe you will have to go a long way to find another piece of work in this condition! Using various drawings, I was careful where to cut, so as to show as many powder channels and as much detail as possible. It was cut slightly off center so as not to destroy the activating needles. Most of the components are firmly fused together, but I managed to free the timer composition ring and the percussion pellet. This gives a clearer indication of how the fuse works. Although the “guts” of this fuse is pretty much intact, the outside shows signs of being knocked about somewhat, and the percussion mechanism 'tail' is slightly bent. Mostly due to the impact after being jettisoned at a fair read more
