Here is a wellpresented and unusual piece of Trench Art which will be of great interest to collectors, and probably more so to those with an engineering background. This is a totally inert sectioned German Dopp Z92. Sb15, Timer/ Percussion fuse. Although this fuse was developed in 1892, it was found near the village of Pozieres, which was totally destroyed during the batlle for the Somme in 1916 This is a very rare piece being this complete. It clearly shows the pellet, detonator and the firing needle on both the timer mechanism and the percussion mechanism (it is quite unusual to find the percussion pellet with the rest of the fuse) I honestly believe you will have to go a long way to find another piece of work in this condition! Using various drawings, I was careful where to cut, so as to show as many powder channels and as much detail as possible. It was cut slightly off center so as not to destroy the activating needles. Most of the components are firmly fused together, but I managed to free the timer composition ring and the percussion pellet. This gives a clearer indication of how the fuse works. Although the “guts” of this fuse is pretty much intact, the outside shows signs of being knocked about somewhat, and the percussion mechanism 'tail' is slightly bent. Mostly due to the impact after being jettisoned at a fair rate of knots! This piece clearly highlights the very high standard of engineering skills that existed 120 years ago! This is a superb example of a DOPP Z92 Sb15 fuse and would not be out of place in any good collection. Please Note: If this is to be used as a paperweight a soft material should be fixed to it as it may scratch a polished surface. Having had problems in the past, I must emphasize that: BUYERS OUTSIDE THE UK MUST enquire about shipping costs before bidding as these could prove expensive! The quote shown is only a rough estimate based on Parcel Force “Price Finder “to the USA. (Obviously Europe would be cheaper than Australia). I can only be more accurate once I know what country to deliver to. I can get insurance up to £200.00, but this will add to the postal cost. Please enquire if this is required I would therefore advise any buyer to arrange their own insurance to suit their own needs. (Speaking from past experience with the Post Office) If a buyer is local to the area and wishes to collect in person, I am perfectly willing to refund any postal charges to save on costs.
