Trilobite (Metacanthina) - Location: Oufaten¸ Morocco. we have a very nice well preserved trilobite (Metacanthina). This is from the Devonian period (400 million years ago). These trilobites occur embedded within hard rounded nodular rocks. These nodules are first broken open (through the center) for the purpose of determining the exact orientation of the enclosed trilobite. The nodule is then glued back together and the labor intensive prepping process begins. Using a combination of grinding tools and a micro-sandblaster these specimens are very carefully exposed. The total amount of preparation time varies (depending on the species) from several hours for the less intricate species to as much as several days for the more intricate and delicate species.
