Triple Weight 8-Day Viennese Regulator (Viennese Grande Sonnierie) Made By Markus Herz In Wien (Vienna) Austria Chimes on the Hour , Half Hour & Quarter Hours Circa 1875 Beautifully Hand Carved Case Full Rounded Columns on the Front of the Case Very Good Running Condition Altdeutch Style Dead Beat Escapement

The case measures a full 57.5" in length, 19" wide at the top , 16" wide at the base . The door measures 36" and has columns running the full length on either side and is done in the Altdeutch Style ( Please refer to our Home Page for a complete listing of all of the Periods during which Clocks were made ). The pendulum is ~33" in length, and the porcelain dial is a two tiered dial with a brass chapter ring insert and a the original brass engine turned bezel that measures 7" in diameter. The dial is flawless (i.e. no chips or hairlines of any sort).
The detail on the full columns on either side of the case is magnificent. Just look at the detail on the Corinthian tops of the columns and the base of the columns. A lot of detailed work went into the engraved piece on top of the clock. The wooden piece at the bottom of the clock also has quite a bit of detail. All of the finials and other parts of the case are original. The case is made from a very nice grade of Walnut that really makes the clock stand out! Both the pendulum and the weights are very nicely engraved and give the clock a great deal of appeal !
The clock is a Grande Sonnierie , so it chimes on the hour , half-hour and quarter-hours on two coiled gongs (i.e. it chimes once for every quarter hour and then repeats the hour). So at the top of the hour the clock will strike 4 times to indicate that 4 quarter-hour periods have passed, and then will strike the hour, at the 45 minute position, it'll chime three times and then strike the hour, etc. T is also a " chime silencer " located at the top of the dial (just above the 1:00 position), in case you don't want the clock to chime, say during the night or while you're watching a movie.
The mounting for the movement (which sits on a wooden board) are two brackets that the movement slides into - very neat and easy . Be sure to remove the weights first before removing the movement, also the pendulum is fixed to the back of the clock. I've had this clock ticking on my wall for several years now, and its always kept good time and attracted a lot of attention from the guests we've had.
