For sale is my 1970 Triumph Herald Tristan Convertible. I have loved owning the car, but it is my daily driver and i just don't think it is the right car for my commute to work. As per the pictures, the car looks great, it runs very nicely too. I shall give a brief insight into the car. Bodywork The body is very straight. All panels are solid with no sign of deep rot. The rear bumper quarters are the worst point with some bubbling, but very useable still. There are a couple of bubbles here and there, but i must stress, it really is very good. The paintwork cleans up beautifully and looks great with a polish. I will clean it tomorrow, Thursday 30th, and add a couple more pictures. It has halogen headlights fitted, so better lighting. The wheels included are the Spitfire ones (the oval hole ones), though if the buy it now is met, i will include the other set. Running gear The car is fitted with a 1500 engine and OVERDRIVE gearbox with standard 4.1 diff. The car runs beautifully and doesn't miss a beat. I use it daily for my 15 mile round trip and it hasn't let me down (except for once when i ran out of fuel!). The overdrive works as it should and means you can cruise on the motorway at 60mph at just under 3000rpm. The car has a single HIFF 44 SU (1 3/4 inch) fitted onto a modified manifold with a k&n filter within the standard air box (modified to match the inlet of the carb). This was to aid fuel consumption and doesn't lose any power compared to twin su's until you get to the higher revs, which i tend not to do due to conserving fuel! In the last couple of months i have done some servicing on it to keep it up to standard. I changed the timing cover oil seal as it had a leak, whilst i was there, replacing the chain and tensioner. No leak from there anymore. It had a slight leak from one of the water pipes so i replaced all of them for good measure. The engine is fitted with a electric fan to aid the warm up time, it is also fitted with a recent full width radiator (which are very expensive!) I did a full service 6 weeks ago, so oil/filter, antifreeze, points, leads, plugs are all new. The diff sings a little, not enough to worry, but always worth a mention. Interior The interior is quite presentable and very much in keeping with the rest of the car. It has what i believe to be Dolomite front seats, they aren't my cup of tea, but they are quite comfy. It has a genuine Moto Lita steering wheel which is in nice condition. It has an oil pressure gauge (good oil pressure!) and a rev counter on the dash. It is all in very nice, used condition. Certainly not a minter, but very nice still. For those that do not know, a Tristan Convertible was a conversion done in the 80's to convert a saloon to a convertible. It has a T bar, similar to that in a Stag, which adds a bit of roll over protection. It says convertible on the log book, but of course it is not a genuine convertible. This is not a homemade conversion chucked together in a garage, it is nicely done, although i appreciate not everybody's cup of tea.Please excuse the pictures, i will add some more tomorrow when i've been able to give it a good clean, including engine, boot and interior. The starting bid is what i paid for it, it is worth significantly more come Spring and i have spent a few hundreds more since, but i'm at a point where i need a hard top classic. Please remember this isn't a fresh restoration, but it has clearly had a lot of money spent on it and as such, still looks grand.Please only bid if you are able to buy and collect.
