mot till june 2016, 77500 miles, new carpets, new seat foams and covers. Engine rebuilt 2014 including crank reground with new bearings, unleaded head conversion, gaskets and oil seals, new clutch and thrust bearing. All four original wheels gritblasted and painted. I bought the Spitfire as a good runner back in 1992, took the body off and gritblasted the underneath, painted with zinc rich industrial primer and topcoat. Cleaned off the chassis which needed no repairs at all. (i do have some photos of this being done) Then had the body profesionally repainted. Put the car back on the road in 2004 and had lots of fun including a tour of Ireland. The big ends started to knock, i think in 2007, (quite a common fault on these) so i took the engine out, refurbished the engine bulkhead including a repaint(bulkhead only). Around this time we had a baby girl, and for a few years the Spitfire sat in the garage till early 2014 when the engine was rebuilt along with a new clutch and exhaust, the interior was looking shabby so new carpets, new seat foams and covers, the seats were rebuilt by Harlequin upholstery, original wheels blasted and repainted. Passed the mot june 2015; Took the car for a tune up - carbs balanced and new air filters. Once the rebuilt engine had done 75 miles i changed the engine oil and filter and also the gearbox oil. read more
