Up for auction is Joan (as in Joan the Wad) my lovely Signal Red 1970 TR6 150 Pi. Joan was restored in the mid-nineties and is still in excellent condition. Her paintwork is really bright and she drives beautifully, packed with power and sounds wonderful from the semi-sport exhaust. She has overdrive on 2nd, 3rd and 4th, all of which work perfectly. I am now selling Joan because between my work commitments and children I just don’t get the chance to use her enough. This is demonstrated by the 52 miles driven since she was serviced and MOT’d back in May. She shows just 72,952 miles on the clock having covered just 10,000 miles in the last 20 years. I have all the MOT’s back to 1993 when she was recorded with 62,785. I also have a very thick history file, including handbook and two sales brochures, plus photographs of the restoration. I have scanned in a few of these pictures, but they aren’t great quality. She has had a full annual service every spring since I’ve owned her and has had a new diff and battery this year. I only take her out in the dry and the previous owner said he did the same. Mechanically she is great. Power is smoothly delivered from the 2.5 litre fuel injected engine. The engine is sweet and smooth, the original Lucas fuel injection system works perfectly, and she doesn’t overheat or lose water / oil and there are no unexplained rattles of knocks. The gearbox was replaced about 5 years ago, the brakes were overhauled last year and she had a new battery and diff earlier this year. She has been converted for unleaded fuel. The interior trim is in good condition overall, but it is starting to show signs of age. There is a late seventies style stereo radio/cassette and speakers which work well, but are also rarely used as I prefer listening to the car. All instruments work well although the gauge lights are a bit dim. The carpets are fitted as per original, i.e. no sound deadening material. The door cards have a couple of small snags but are cheap and easy to replace. This model had the old style foot button headlight switch. She has a lovely wood rim mota-lita steering wheel that matches the dashboard very well. Externally Joan comes with a lovely hardtop in the same gorgeous signal red paintwork as the body. I think the hood is mohair. It is nice and black but it is rarely up! She has an aerial, bullet mirrors, sits on a set of wires, all tyres have plenty of life in them and she has period silver on black number plates. The chromework is good and bright although the front bumper isn’t perfect. There are two marks on the paintwork, some nice soul put a small scratch in the door with a key and there is a small crack in the paintwork on the front wing (I was there when I got the car). I’ve taken pictures of these with a 10p piece to indicate the size. Underneath she is excellent, as you would expect having been kept dry. As with any car of this age there are a few faults. If I was keeping her the things I would do are; tidy up the interior trim, fix front bumper and sort the scratch and crack on the paintwork. The hardtop is in the roof of my garage at the moment, so taking a picture isn’t easy. The one I have taken shows a lot of reflections on it as I needed the flash, these aren’t marks on the paint. The resto picture I have scanned from prints and the quality isn't great. The scratch and crack pictures have a 10p as a guide to size and were taken with a flash, so there are some other reflections on them.
