Freshly found this morning, this hand hooked wool rug measures approximately 56" long by approximately 28" wide, given some slight variations typical of hand work. At first glance, it may appear to be a well balanced abstract pattern, but in actuality it has primitive tulips, scrolls and a center medallion plan. The color balance is excellent and remains vibrant, with the backside as exceptionally well hooked as the front, making this (in my opinion) as usable showing the reverse as it would be showing the front. Clearly, it needs a binding, but the shadow of the original binding still remains (as does a little of the tackiness on one side). Except for a ¼" circular surface loss near the center and the hole and edge loss as pictured on one end, this rug remains in fully usuable condition. It is worked on a burlap foundation and t are no thin or worn areas except for the edges that need tucking in and binding. T is no brittleness, flaking, staining or critters running about. If you look closely at the hole pictured, what appears to be men's suiting fabric is evident, indicating to me that this too, is a wonderful make-do, use- it -up rug. Beautifully hooked, it's quite heavy and well worth a proper binding, which is why I'm starting it at a low opening bid, in hopes it will go to an appreciative home.
